in the works…

by flynn on January 11, 2012

in Company News

Having recovered from all the food and fun of the new year we are now starting fresh with some new endeavors.

Firstly the end has teamed up with Balcony TV to be the home of their new branch, Balcony TV Brooklyn.  Balcony TV is a international organization that films live performances from up-and-coming bands on rooftops in major cities across the world.  We have begun shooting some amazing bands on the roof and are anticipating dropping the videos next week.  We’ll let you know when we do!

Additionally, the end is happy to open its doors to New Zealand musician Liam Finn.  Liam has recently relocated to the NY area to work on some new music and has a series of shows on Mondays in January (9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th) at Rock Shop in Park Slope Brooklyn.

Also, lots of changes have happened at the end.  Those of you who visited the space 6 months ago will find many welcome additions and changes to the space.  Most importantly our recording studio is completely up and running complete with engineers and special discounted rates.  Call or drop in anytime for a tour of the newly completed facilities.

Hope you are all ready for the end.

Fruits of Labor

We see a lot of things happen at the end.

Sometimes what we do is over and done with in a night.

In the case of film shoots however, the product is labored upon for a long time after filming.

Months ago we had two music video shoots at the end.  They were a blast to make and just as fun to watch.

Studio Preview & AES Afterparty Recap

by flynn on October 24, 2011

in Company News

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

To everyone that helped to make this past Saturday’s studio launch night at the end a great success.  We are humbled by all of you who came out to celebrate and share in this special night.

We began construction in early February toiling away at a full renovation and optimizing our plans for an acoustically sound recording space.  This past weekend was truly the culmination of all that hard work in the celebration of our space and all the wonderful people involved in creating it.

This began as a thought, developed into an idea, and since has been nurtured into the result you see today; a state of the art creative facility housing multiple artistic disciplines.

This was a night to say thank you.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the end; from our staff of amazing people to the artists and performers who make our space sound and look incredible.

Thank you to Bela Tarr and Anthony Hall for playing an amazing show.

They say art is not created in a vacuum.  This has become increasingly clear to us as this project has taken shape.  We are nothing without you, the community of local artists, musicians and creative people for whom we built this space.  You give our space a heart and a soul and we thank you for that.

This is a celebration of what is to come.

This is the end…

Bring to Light: NY’s Nuit Blanche Event

by flynn on September 28, 2011

in Company News

As daylight-savings approaches we find ourselves walking home from work in the dark yearning for light and warmth.  This Saturday a global event approaches Greenpoint Brooklyn that will literally light up the night.

Nuit Blanche (French for white night or all nighter) brings together local artists, musicians, and performers to create site-specific works of art, sound and performance for an unforgettable evening.

Bring to Light has chosen Greenpoint Brooklyn to host the New York wing of the festival.  Through the installation of various light sculptures Greenpoint will be illuminated this Saturday as the sound of music and the spectacle of performers provide another backdrop to the amazing works of art.  See here for a map of where the installations and performances will be.

There will be approximately 50 works of art on display as well as a plethora of food trucks and extended hours for the East River Ferry, which will run until midnight.  The event will coincide with other Nuit Blanche events going on in cities around the world.

As you can see, the installations and performances are all in very close proximity to the end.  As such, we will serve as a private home base of sorts for the event; providing a relaxing place for event organizers and performers to meet and take in the beautiful views of lower Manhattan.

This event is sure to be unforgettable.  So, as winter approaches and our days get shorter, join us on Saturday for one last brightly lit night.

See you there!

The End Presents 110 Stories

by flynn on September 19, 2011

in Events

Last weekend the end hosted a truly unique event for the launch of a 9/11 remembrance and story sharing app entitled 110 Stories.  Using augmented reality, 110 Stories guides the user to point their cell phone camera towards the site of the twin towers and then, measuring your distance and relation to the towers, will superimpose an artistic representation of the towers over the image.  You can then take a photo, add a comment or story, and upload them to a community of people who have also shared their pictures and stories.  In the words of project creator, Brian August:

“Seeing” the towers come to life through your iPhone will transport you back in time. 110 Stories lets each of us show and tell our personal stories and share them with the world. Simply tell your story, contextualized around a view of the Twin Towers, magnified by the power of crowd-sourcing.”

There was a great turn out for this event with lots of people excited for this app, remembering this day in history, and celebrating this great city.  Australian band The Kin played an acoustic rendering of their song America on our rooftop at sunset while those in attendance snapped photos using 110 Stories. Billy the Artist was also in attendance, painting a large mural of the skyline of NYC.

Check out pics from the event by Carolina Mendez Sampayo here.

This combination of creative output in various disciplines really defines what we at the end are striving to create and promote.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
